Water Emergency in Sicily

Sicily is experiencing a severe water emergency, with below-average rainfall levels and critical water supplies. The shortage of water resources has led to rationing plans and a declaration of both regional and national states of emergency. To address this crisis, it is essential to upgrade and strengthen water infrastructure, such as desalination plants and treatment plants.

Potable water treatments of surface water generally require complex technologies and processes related to the nature of the contaminations.
These contaminations can be natural of microbiological or chemical origin-such as ammonia, organic matter, algae, cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins-or anthropogenic, due to wastewater, agricultural and industrial activities.
Critical treatment issues are associated with changes in the microbial or chemical composition of water due to climatic events such as floods or droughts.

The types of treatment are distinguished:

  • Oxidation
  • Sedimentation
  • Coagulation and Flocculation
  • Sand Filtration and Activated Carbon Adsorption
  • Post-Disinfection
  • Water recovery with reverse osmosis treatment

Terminter ensures water quality with advanced groundwater treatments.
Our company performs various purification techniques to remove chemical contaminants and industrial compounds, ensuring safe water for human consumption.
We perform pretreatment, primary, secondary and tertiary treatment processes, and also offer mechanical, biological and chemical-physical treatments.
Equally important is the proper disposal of the sludge generated.

  • Biological systems
  • Chemical Physical Systems
  • Water recovery and reuse
  • Industrial process water treatment
  • Stormwater treatment

Nowadays, desalination has become a cost-effective solution to cope with freshwater shortages typical of tropical and offshore areas. The key part of the desalination process is the REVERSE OSMOSIS (RO) technology .

Sea Water Desalinators

Our reverse osmosis desalinators are designed to produce fresh water with salinity less than 500 ppm from seawater with salinity up to 55000 ppm. In addition, the produced water can be made potable with the addition of a potabilization section. We produce desalinators from small flow rates to large municipal uses.

Demineralizers

Demineralizers are water treatment plants used to remove ions ine to obtain water with very low salt content. Treatment is accomplished by ion exchange action in ilters containing ionic resins, reverse osmosis, and sometimes EDI.

Containerized facilities

We are able to design and build the plants inside containers.
The use of prefabricated structures makes it possible to create plants that are fully modulable to the customer's needs, but above all, a significant reduction in costs and time related to site work.
In fact, the containers, fully assembled and tested, can be moved easily even abroad, ensuring rapid commissioning thanks to simple hydraulic and electrical connec- tions.
Terminter's containerized systems, in addition to the advantages listed above, are also ideal for cases of water emergencies, hard-to-reach locations, temporary solutions or seismic zones.
